E-Mails From The Front Line In Afghanistan.
Senior officers’ damning e-mails reveal plummeting morale at heart of Afghan campaign that has cost 409 British Lives and hundreds more severely wounded.
Typical e-mails:
- “Being deployed is like being put on the football pitch for the last 2 minutes, enough time to get badly hurt, but not enough to turn defeat into victory”.
- “The lads expect the whole house of cards will fall down when we leave”.
- “I am being sent out to help stabilise a country I have no faith, interest or empathy in, to prop up a government the world says is corrupt”.
In public members of the Government are reluctant to question the chances of success in Afghanistan, but privately are in full agreement with these e-mails.
We have said all along that this war cannot be won.
- 409 British troops will have died in vain with hundreds more severely wounded.
- Afghanistan will revert to its tribal ways, governed by a corrupt Government.
- So called freedom will not be achieved.
- The badlands between Afghanistan and Pakistan will continue to be home to terrorists.
- The Taliban will re-exert its rule over the Afghan population.
- The country’s main export will continue to be heroine and other drugs.
