Another Cambridgeshire County Council Foul-Up.

Cambridgeshire County Council contracted BAM Nuttall to build and have on stream a giant waste shredding machine to operate at AmeyCespa’s site in Waterbeach.

The objective was intended to shred and recycle thousands of tons of household waste.

The machine built by BAM Nuttall was suposed to be fully operational in November 2010, BUT has failed to meet expectations

The County Council spent £42 Million of local taxpayers’ money only to find that nearly 2 years after delivery, the giant shredding machine has FAILED to be fully operational.

The County Council has had to pay an extra £1.45 Million in landfill tax.

This is the same County Council, YES, CAMBRIDGESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL that entered into a contract with, wait for it, BAM NUTTALL who built Cambridgeshire’s Guided Busway which came in £70 Million OVER BUDGET.

The obvious questions that must be asked are:

  • Why employ a failed company?
  • Why employ a company that the County Council is in a legal contract dispute with?
  • What benefits, if any have individual County Councillors received?  Financial or in kind?
  • What are the name(s) of Councillors who signed these contracts?

We strongly suspect that there has been some BACKHAND ARRANGEMENTS between individual Cambridgeshire County Council and BAM Nuttall.
