The Iraq Inquiry
The Iraq inquiry comprising a 5 man committee headed by Sir John Chilcot has started it's investigation.
- Gordon Brown will not be called to give evidence so as to avoid embarrassing questions before the General Election.
- Witnesses will not have to swear to tell the truth. (This will let Tony Blair off the hook).
- The investigation will have NO judicial standing, so no sanctions against those who lied.
- The 5 strong committee will not allow barristers to cross examine witnesses.
Several facts have so far emerged from the Chilcot inquiry.
- Tony Blair and George Bush signed a secret deal ONE YEAR before the invasion of Iraq to topple Saddam Hussein.
- Blair deceived Parliament and the British people by taking the UK into war in Iraq based on lies that Iraq possessed weapons on mass destruction.
- Blair and Bush had no clear objectives, no clear strategy and no clear plans for post war outcomes.
- Blair ignored advice from the most senior British law officer, that the invasion of Iraq was illegal.
- The result of Blair's hidden agenda was that the invasion was a rushed operation, lacking in coherence and so under-resourced that British troops were placed in unnecessary danger.
- Gordon Brown starved the military of the necessary funding to conduct the Iraq war.
